Brief bio:

As someone who is interested in how people choose careers, I like to say that I’m on my third career! I graduated from KU with degrees in Spanish and secondary education, which led to my first career as a high school Spanish teacher in Kansas City. While I loved the classroom, I wanted to work with students in a more comprehensive way. I returned to college to earn a Masters of School Counseling, leading me to a second career as a high school guidance counselor in Chapman, KS. In 2014, I earned a Ph.D. in Counseling and Student Development from Kansas State University, which brought me to my third career in higher education, first with the University Career Center, and now with TRIO SES & STEM.

Beyond advising TRIO Students, I am active in developing study abroad opportunities for TRIO students and have enjoyed leading or co-leading the Preparing for International Careers Costa Rica program. For summer 2020, I developed a new study abroad program specifically for TRIO SES & STEM students, Developing Global Perspective. In 2015, I founded a campus initiative to better support our students that have been in foster care, and now lead the program, Fostering Jayhawk Success.
