Hi! My name is Melissa Peterson, I am from the Navajo Nation and I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I also love to play sports and love spending time out doors. At KU my title is Academic Coordinator, but that just means I run the tutoring program for TRIO SES & STEM. We have a good 40 tutors right now and we are always looking for more (email me if interested). I am also a doctoral student in the Higher Education Administration program at KU, I am all but dissertated (ABD), meaning I should be done very very soon.

I came to Lawrence Kansas to coach volleyball at Haskell Indian Nations University and I loved it here so much I stayed a bit longer. First I got my Masters in Public Health from the KU Medical Center and now I am working on my EdD (Doctorate of Education). In what spare time I should not have I really enjoy sports, fishing, staying up to date on my TV shows and learning new things.

I'd like to think I am resourceful, from school to life, so if you have a question please stop on in. I also advise the First Nations Student Association (the Native American student group on campus) and I am a member of the KU Native Faculty and Staff Council. We host an annual KU Powwow and Indigenous Culture Festival that you should look out for, it is usually the first weekend of April.

Lastly, I am a Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Alum and continue to cheer them on, especially in women's volleyball and women's basketball (the two sports I played there). Go Rams!

But always will I be a Jayhawk!
