What do you enjoy about the work you do? I enjoy working directly with students to help guide them to their goal of graduation and beyond. As a first-generation, low-income student who grew up in a single parent household, I can truly identify with TRIO students. I hope students see me as a role model and beacon of light to know they too can do anything they put their mind to.

What volunteering or passion projects do you do outside of work? I love baking pies and teaching Jazzercise!!

Bio:

My name is Michelle D. Wilson, I am the Academic Coordinator for TRIO SES & STEM and a doctoral student in the KU Communication Studies department. My research interest is around organizational communication, workplace bullying (i.e. managers who use their power to bully), and toxic work environments. I plan to connect my diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice efforts on campus with my research interest. I earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies, with an emphasis in organizational communications from KU and a master’s degree from Washburn University in liberal studies, with an emphasis in public administration.

I am the former KU Black Faculty and Staff Council President for two terms. I am currently a KU Staff Senator, KU Staff Senate Diversity and Inclusion committee co-chair, KU University Senate Ad-Hoc DEI Committee member, KU FIRST Student Organization advisor, KU Black Alumni Network Young Alumni/Student Programs co-chair, and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
